Nikkei Horizons in Action

Arigato, sensei!

We our instructors! The Nikkei Horizons Instructor Appreciation Luncheon brought together the many sensei who graciously and generously share their knowledge and wisdom with the staff and students. They encourage lifelong learning and make every day the best day for hundreds of students and their families each year.

The guests had a rare opportunity to gather and mingle, sharing their stories and meeting other members of the Nikkei Horizons family.

We honored two esteemed instructors who will retire after this quarter, Pam Sho Ken Lee (master shuji sensei) and Haruko Shimizu (master mizuhiki sensei). Both talented ladies have given the gift of beauty to hundreds of students through their courses for the last 22 years! Domo arigato gozaimasu, ladies!

The crowd was treated to performances by the Nikkei Horizons Hula Girls, Kentaro Quick on guitar, Sumi Yasuda and Rie Taki on ukulele, and the Nikkei Horizons Minyo Dancers. All of the guests were delighted by their talent, especially Henrylyn Kau’i Auwae (hula instructor), John Iwai and AC Arai (ukulele instructors), and Sunkie Oye (Minyo dance instructor). Their classes inspired the performers and their art.

Lunch, prepared by the Seattle Keiro Dietary Department, was a delicious treat, followed by a lively door prize drawing. John Iwai thought his coconut pig prize was just a kick!
